CDP provides an evaluation tool for institutional investors and other stakeholders. In 2012 it comprises 51 companies from the Global 500 based on the quality of disclosure and performance on actions taken to mitigate climate change. The highest scoring companies for disclosure enter the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI).
Danone’s high score (97/100) indicates good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company. It also rewards the high level of transparency in its responses.
“Maintaining a healthy natural environment is key to accomplishing our mission of bringing health through food to as many people as possible. Our company strongly believes that nature and business are not in opposition, rather that they can each act to strengthen the other. We chose CO2 intensity as the best indicator to help reach and maintain a healthy planet. The consolidated reduction over the period 2008-2011 reached 27,5% and we have reconfirmed our goal of a 30% reduction by 2012. Being part of the CDLI for the first time is a great achievement for Danone’s teams, who have worked very hard to put Nature at the very heart of our business. “ Pierre-André Terisse, CFO Danone
